Traditions

Henna has a long, deep and rich history that captures our attention for its fleeting beauty. Just the scent of Henna takes me to another world, an exotic place. Henna is a healthy hedonistic rite. Being Hennaed makes you slow down, relax and just be. Henna is great for men, women and children.

Henna can be done for parties, weddings, birthdays, any holiday, and special occasions or as rites of passage. Many people use henna in a blessingway for Mothers-to-be. Your design becomes a souvenir of your experience. I really enjoy the children. Children have a fascination with Henna that is open and honest. One little girl asked me so forthright and wistfully, “Can you do my other hand to match?” I had to comply!

Henna is applied with paste in a cone or bottle; it is then left on for 2-24 hours. After which you may remove the Henna by rubbing off the flaking, dried paste or removing with olive oil and lemon juice. Henna needs time to cure. You do not want to put water on your design for at least 24 hours. When Henna is first removed it will look bright orange or a light orange. Over the next 24 hours it will deepen to a dark brown or red. The color you receive is mostly dependent upon personal chemistry. Henna is NEVER black. I use only pure natural body art quality Henna with no additives. As part of my recipe, I may add lemon or lime juice and an assortment of essential oils and green tea.

Healing

Henna also has a healing tradation. I create Henna designs for physical and emotional healing, as well as for fun and entertainment I use acupressure points, client input, intuition and symbolism to make a connection between me and my clients. We focus the piece on the problem area or chi point and replace negativity with positive energy.  The client can use the design for two to three weeks as a meditation to create a more balanced state.  After a healing session, many clients tell me that they felt relief by the next day and some have had healing events or spiritual experiences. Sessions begin with a short moment to ground and center, then a discussion about yourself, the issues you have and your design and placement ideas. This could be directly over the area of discomfort, meridian line or if the issue is emotional we decide on the most appropriate area. During the application we meditate on the issue and task at hand.

Appointments take a minimum of one hour up to two hours depending on the complexity of the design or issue.
Henna Healing is not a replacement for medical diagnoses and should not be a substitute for the advice of a professional health practitioner. I do my work with the intention of helping clients find comfort and to support their chosen healing process.
